Petfinder- Here's a great website that maintains a comprehensive and searchable database of adoptable pets from thousands of shelters around the country. You can search the database using a number of different criteria such as what kind of animal, ideal age, size, gender, and geographic location among many others. The site even offers a more advanced search if case you're looking for pets only with photos provided, pets that have been declawed, or pets that are good with children just to name a few.
Another great feature is the ability to search for animal shelters...you can either pull up an entire list by state or province, or you can just type in your zip code to see a list of the closest shelters near your location. You will find individual contact information for each shelter as well as pictures and descriptions of their current adoptable animals.
The site offers a wealth of other resources such as online articles to help you better care for your pet, online classifieds for posting lost and found pets, message boards for communicating with other animal lovers, and more. Overall, a great resource for anyone looking or thinking about adopting a pet.
Pets Welcome- Here's a useful resource that lists pet friendly destinations in the U.S and Canada. The site offers thousands of listings from the most obvious such as hotel/motels to the less obvious like amusement parks, beaches, and even ski resorts just to name a few.
When browsing the directory, just select the appropriate category, further narrowing your search by selecting the state or province, and then the city of your final destination. You will see all of the pet friendly listings along with specific information regarding their pet policy. You will also see their rates, contact info, online maps and driving directions, and you can even make reservations online with some of the hotels.
The site also contains a lot of useful information for traveling with your pet(s). You can find general travel tips, learn what to do in an emergency situation, get important information regarding international pet policies if traveling with your pet out of the country, and lots more.
Although the site is geared toward travelers, it is also a valuable resource for anyone since you can use the site to find pet friendly apartment complexes, emergency vets, kennels, pet sitters, and lots of other local places of interest.
